It's important to change your capsule wardrobe as the seasons change. In fact every 3 months or so is ideal otherwise you may find yourself getting bored of your options and giving up, or else too hot or too chilly depending on whether you are coming into winter or summer.

As a capsule wardrobe convert, here are my top tips and ideas on the top 30 pieces you need to get started:

  • Consider the season - don't only include skirts in deepest winter and long sleeved tees in the height of summer!

  • Pinterest your capsule first. Create a board for your new wardrobe and have a scroll through ideas for A/W 2019, S/S 2020 etc and add images of clothes which inspire you. Then 'step back' and look at the overall Look and Feel of your board; is there alot of one colour, style, pattern or print? Is it filled with smart pants or casual jumpers and denims? This will help you in deciding what style you want to aim for in the coming weeks and months.

  • 'Shop' your wardrobe first to see what you already have which fits the look you want to go for.

  • Break down the items into the following sections:

  1. Long Sleeve x10 (for winter or switch this amount with short sleeve for summer)

  2. Short Sleeve x7 (good for layering between seasons)

  3. Bottoms x6

  4. Dress x1

  5. Shoes x3

  6. Accessories x2

  7. Outerwear x1

Why not try following our handy capsule wardrobe planner to ensure you get all the pieces needed to create the ideal capsule.

Once you have chosen from your own current collection then see where you are missing a few items and create a list. Over the coming weeks, stop off in your local charity shops to fill in the gaps. Of course buy from whichever shops you like, but if you don't want to break the bank, thrift shops are full of little gems and bargains and they are always my person Go-To!

Top Tip: items including outerwear, shoes, handbags, accessories, sleepwear and gymwear do not need to be included in the capsule as they are often weather or occasion dependant. A single choice of an outer coat can help to simplify your decision and calm the mind on a day to day basis, but otherwise don't feel you can't choose from your more extended coat or bag collection if needed on special occasions!
