With a pre-schooler under 3 it can be harder to think of quick and easy games to play together as they are still at a young age where playing from their imagination is a bit tricky; perhaps their language is not quite developed enough or maybe you pretneding to be an alien or a dog is just plain confusing, scary or weird! And that is where a good solid learning game can come in handy. At this age, learning is fun so incorporating numbers, colours, letters and more into your CALM Play time together is the simplest way to come together for a but of parent and baby time!
Setting up a game can feel like a real mission for a busy parent who has a million other jobs on their plate; but setting time aside each day to play will calm your mind and give you much needed 1-2-1 time with your little one. Plus games where you look for items from around the house is far easier and quicker to start than games which involve setting up before you can begin so they take the time pressure off.
The Colour match game is super fun and works exactly as it sounds.
Lay out pieces of coloured paper (or colour in a piece of white paper with a pen or pencil) and write the name of each colour on it to help with name learning too.
Then depending on their age, either send them off on a colour hunt or go on a colour hunt around the house with them. You can take the paper with you to colour match as you go.
Bring items back and place them on the matching squares of a paper.
At the end, go over each colour and check that they each match and reiterate the colour.
They will love going on a hunt with you and love matching so much that they won't even realise they have learnt something.
