Make It Shine Monday: Eco Friendly Polish Ideas

There is a huge craze right now for being more eco friendly when it comes to cleaning products. That said, we don't always have time to whip up a batch of home made polish every Monday morning so finding ways to make a single batch last longer is a necessity. Since we are not putting preservatives and toxins in our polishes, we need an oil that lasts rather than olive oil which can quickly take a turn for the worse. As such, a mineral oil is ideal!

You can then try making one larger batch of polish to last a month or so, though you may prefer the mini batches - just enough for each Make It Shine Monday.

This is a super easy 'recipe' for an effective polish which will not only go easy on the environment and cut out a whole host of toxins in your home, but also make your surfaces gleam.

Your will need:

  • a 1/4 cup white vinegar

  • a few drops of mineral oil such as this one which will not go off

  • a few drops of a preferred essential oil such as lemon or lavender (or any other scent you love - my mum loves patchouli).

  • a small container

  • clean polishing cloths

Place the ingredients in the pot together, give them a shake and then get cleaning.

The vinegar is perfect for removing dust and grime from within the surface of the wood; the oil conditions it and makes it gleam and the essential oil leaves the room smelling divine. And all this without harming the environment one bit! You can even use recycled containers.

Alternatively, you can purchase pre-made eco-friendly products for shining up your surfaces such as those made by Method and Ecos.

Don't be afraid to switch up the chores and make it a bit more fun by becoming a cleaning mixologist! It's great to find your own favourite mixes, scents and products and when you use them, you will feel a great sense of satisfaction not only at how glorious your surfaces look, but how gentle you have been on the planet too!!

A serious win for any CALM MUMMY!
