Floors Friday: What It Says On The Tin

It's Friday and time to get those floors sparkling! There are many kinds of flooring from thick carpet to exposed floorboards so you need to consider what products will best serve you and your home. And as with the other days, you also need to do what is best for you and the time you have available each Friday. If you have a 30 minute time-frame and a 6 bed/4 bath mansion, you may not have time to do every floor, so pick the rooms which need doing and complete the rest the following week or do them in batches of 3 rooms a week for example. If you have 20 minutes and a studio apartment then you can likely get it completed in the time.

My 3 bed, 2 floor apartment can take around 40 minutes to do every floor in one go and that is not always realistic for me with 2 kiddies dashing about needing me as well, so I leave the bedroom floors for Wed-nesday Bed-nesday and the the kitchen and bathrooms floors for Thirsty Thursday, leaving me with the main living areas, stairs, spare room and hall way.

This is far more realistic as it breaks down the overall work indo easy to do chunks and can be done in less time.

Where To Start

There are lots of products you can use when vacuuming to make your rooms smell delicious. Personally I love the glade powders which are sprinkled on the carpets and hoovered up with no drying time. If you have a little more time there are also wet sprays which work just as well but require an hour or so to dry off completely.

I also steam my kitchen floors, bathrooms and hall way and there are lovely eco friendly products you can use to clean, antibac and create a great scent with such as Method, and you can find all my favourite products on the Calm Mummy Method store here.

Why Bother?

I spent a long time (too long really) being totally unbothered about my floors as I felt I simply did not have the time to do anything about them, but The CALM MUMMY METHOD has totally changed the game for me mentally and in terms of my available time.

It makes cleaning easy to manage on a mental level becasue I no longer feel overwhlemed by the amount of work which needs doing...

...and floors are especially important with younger children in the house as they spend so much time playing (and eating) off them!! How we didn't all have constant food poisoning prior to starting this method I don't know.

The other issue from my days of lax cleaning is that all the carpets are destroyed in my home. Stained, mucky, threadbare, flattened, unkempt even still, now they are regularly treated and cleaned; nothing can take away from my prior lack of care...so take good care of your floors, and believe me, they will last!!
