Thirsty Thursday: Getting It Watertight

Writer's picture: The Calm MummyThe Calm Mummy

Making sure this plan is working for you will be most apparent on the days which cover the highest number of rooms in your home. Thirsty Thursday is a big one for me as we have 3 bathrooms plus the kitchen, and since Thursday is all about the rooms with running water, that is quite a lot of cleaning. Bathrooms aren't a quick once over by any means either...they require quite a deep clean, whether you give the toilet a bleach and the surfaces a once-over during the week, or not!

If I feel I have the time, I like to get all 4 water rooms completed on a Thursday, but some weeks I am tired, in a hurry to get it done before a visitor arrives or prior to heading out, or perhaps Alice is needing more attention etc. There can be any number of reasons why you can't complete all the rooms, but The CALM MUMMY METHOD is designed to work for you without time limits or set lists to complete and therefore with zero guilt and maximum CALM!

If you only have time for the kitchen, then just do that and do the bathroom(s) next Thursday. If you only have time for the upstairs bathroom(s), then just do that and do the downstairs one next week...it's up to you; there is no guilt or sense of incompleteness...this method is designed around you and your time!

So once you decide what you can get done easily in the time you have, get it done knowing that the following week the next room will be done too and once you have finished for the day, enjoy that sense of satisfaction.

Tips

  • I try to include doors (both the walk-through doors as well as any cupboard doors) when doing these rooms. I spritz them with Zoflora and give them a quick wipe down.

  • I put bleach in the toilet first to let that work whilst I do the rest of the bathroom.

  • I spray the toilet, sink and shower/bath including the shower head with Cif, before scrubbing the sink first.

  • I finish by spraying the floors and, with a cloth, wipe all the dust and corner 'bits' into the centre of the room. Once it dries I can easily run over it with my cordless hoover. I find my bathrooms get really dusty so making the floors (and dust) wet first helps me to pick it up and remove it rather than just spreading it in to the air before it resettles on the floor.
