The No Pressure No Guilt Method

Writer's picture: The Calm MummyThe Calm Mummy

With my anxiety I don't need a hard and fast schedule to stick to to add to my already worried brain. For me, the act of cleaning my home is not what relieves my anxiety - but the fact that I've completed something which needed doing, does! I'm sure this is not the case for everyone, but if you are of the mindset that cleaning isn't your favourtie thing but that for your family's sake (and yours) it needs doing, then the CALM MUMMY METHOD is for you.

The foundation of the method is that there are no hard and fast rules, no absolute requirements, no long lists of to-do's each day to add to your already mile long list. There is one job a day for 5 days of the week [click here for the 5 day planner]. You can do them as you see or feel fit; in other words, you can do as much or as little as is required or possible. Some Mondays I will just polish downstairs and then leave the upstairs for the following Monday - some Monday's I will do both. It is entirely dependant on the time I have available, the mindset I am in and of course, how dusty the place has become in the week previous.

There is one job a day for 5 days of the week and you can do them as you see or feel fit; you can do as much or as little as is required.

Because frankly, some days it is just easier to get things done than other days, right? Perhaps the baby had you up 6 times in the night, perhaps your mind was whirling until 2am, perhaps you are doing a million-and-one other things that day, perhaps you just want to sit and play with the children! Whatever the reason is, some days you may not have 30 or 40 minutes or more to dedicate to completeing all the cleaning and when you don't manage to stick to the routine you can fall off the wagon and think "I didn't do it - I give up" and revert back. Like a yoyo cleaner! This is where the CALM MUMMY METHOD has played a huge part in my life. It is based on me and my needs and not on the demands and commands of a list. It enables me to do what needs doing - because I know what is required, I don't need a step by step list of what is dirty in my home - and to be trustworthy enough to be able to leave what I feel can be left for the following week. And I still get my job well done satisfaction hit at the end of it! Whoohoo.

It is based on you and your needs, requirements and capabilities that day and not on the demands and commands of a list.
