Guys, cooking every single night can become the ultimate chore. Am I right? Or are you one of those who thrives on the challenge of a different meal every night? I am not (just so you know) but I'm finding my way over the years. Anyway, for a calm approach to cooking, I have begun a new routine which I want to share with you in the hope it may inspire you or change your thinking about this subject.

My oldest son is 9. He is now become quite a handy little sidekick to have around the home and when cooking, it's actually really great to have him come over and cook with me.
He chops vegetables, creates a salad and makes wraps. And I know it's just the little things, but it really does give me a moment of calm to know that something which I could have been doing is already being done - without ME being involved for a change!! It's like a little break for mummy!
A Moment of Peace
It really does give me a moment of calm when I know that something which I could have been doing is being done already! It's like a little break for mummy!
From there I can also ask him to lay the table and at the end of the meal, he takes away the plates and puts them in the dishwasher. These are things I have been doing for nearly a decade for him and my family, and the great thing is that now...he loves to do it. He enjoys the feeling of being useful and independent.
It's been shown in studies that helping mum cook naturally causes children to eat more healthily which is a wonderful added bonus, and it's helping him learn and grow in confidence whilst developing an understanding of how to be helpful. But (more importantly!!!) it's helping mummy out during the peak time of day which is renound for being extremely hectic for most families! So it's Double Win.
Let know how you get on with your little sidekick over @the_calm_mummy_method
